What were you taught in speech therapy? It varies a lot and the value of the treatment varies as a result. The most successful courses i have been on focus on two things. The first is acceptance and becoming more comfortable with stuttering in general. This leads to less avoidance and more confidence when talking in general. The second part is fluency shaping techniques. I am skeptical about this part, especially breathing in specific ways. Ideas like using occasional prolongations to maintain fluency is something I have found more useful. The acceptance part is life changing for a lot of people and I think that is why you hear a lot of people (myself included) promoting it.
