It’s a process. A long, long process. You have to commit to speaking in uncomfortable situations, stuttering openly, and—most importantly—telling people that you stutter. Over time (meaning years or decades), it can help improve fluency. Why? Because there’s a clear psychological component, even though stuttering has genetic roots. We don’t stutter when we’re alone. There are some people who seem to make us stutter less. The goal of desensitizing yourself to stuttering is decreasing the psychological stakes. All I can say is that it helped me more than speech therapy and more than a Speech Easy device.
