No ones arguing that stuttering doesn't suck. I've stuttered since before I can even remember. A tv show is the least of a 10 year old stuttering girl's problems. She has a lifetime of open ridicule and being made fun of by her peers, unknowingly not getting called back for interviews, and relationship issues - all of which will undoubtedly affect her self esteem and how her life turns out in a profound way. But this tv show is just crossing the line. Give me a fucking break. Media is for the most part a voluntary experience; she doesn't have to watch it. Part of growing up with this disability means being able to quickly learn that you need to be able to laugh at yourself sometimes. Stopping a tv show from making jokes about a stutter is way less harmful than the direct discrimination of people you go to school with. It's a piss in the ocean of shame. Also, maybe having a character in media who stutters is a good thing. Maybe it normalizes it.
