just found out about /stutter First actual post on Reddit finding this sub made me want to ask some things. I’m 23 recently I’ve been thinking about trying out speech therapy. The only things holding me back are that it’s a two hour drive away to the nearest center and the cost is insane. On a day where I get a lot of sleep and I am around people that I am comfortable with my stutter is very minimal. However I am now working in a place that is away from home and I hardly know anyone so my stutter has come out a lot more, like really bad some days I feel like I am just wasting peoples time when I talk to them so I just avoid talking altogether. Worst part of my stutter is my first name... I am cursed with a name I can’t say, so introductions are not my thing. Even ordering food from a drive thru makes me feel depressed when I hear the person on the other end giggling it makes me angry at the start then I feel down after, more so when I don’t even end up getting what I tried to order. So here my question is speech therapy worth it? How much does it really help? How often must you go back to brush up on techniques? my stutter never used to really bother me at all... how many people just go there entire life with a stutter and not trying to get help with it? I used to think it didn’t bother me and that my life would be fine stumbling over the odd block, but now I just want it all to stop. Can anyone here give me advice please?
