"You wouldn't make fun of someone with down syndrome, why would you make fun of stuttering?" It probably has to do with the majority of people not knowing much about stuttering. This likely has to do with stuttering making people uncomfortable, resulting in people shying away from stutterers. Add to this a barrier that prevents many stutterers from communicating their struggles to others...you get a huge distancing between 'normal people' and stutterers. In order for people to sympathize with others, they have to (1) have decent exposure or some form of relatability and (2) acknowledge/be aware of that person's struggle. I assure you, if those DJs' had children who stuttered, they would never make such tasteless jokes.
