I, a moderate / severe stutterer, had the same thing. I couldn't even watch "The King's Speech". I was in denial that stuttering is a problem for me. Admitting it to myself was tremendous painfull. I changed a lot since. I accepted my stuttering learned technics to work through a block and technics to decrease the frequency of stuttering events. Now I love to hear somebody stuttering, if he is doing it confident without avoiding or word switching. I admire the courage it takes to say what you want to say whenever you want, even if you know you will stutter. What always gets me is the realisation that most people are generous and do accept stuttering. I still cry to this great example of the generousity of the humanity http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdyj05-laqY
