My stutter is very mild--I've been at my job for 6 months and my boss didn't notice it until last week. MANY times, when I stumble over a word, people think I'm making a joke, because it seems to come out of nowhere. With my boss I stumbled over a coworker's name and he looked at me funny and said "Why did you say her name like that?" I said "Because I stutter." he said, "you do?!" This starbucks thing really bothered me for reasons I can't really articulate (no pun intended), even though I know she didn't mean anything by it.
