How do we as a stuttering community feel about the use of speech impediments in the Looney Tunes? Growing up, I was often bullied due to my stuttering in addition to being unable to enunciate certain sounds. One of the methods bullies used was to compare me to Porky Pig with the exaggerated "that's all folks". Despite Porky, Sylvester, and many others having noticeable speech impediments, they were not background characters in their own cartoons. They weren't made fun of because of their speech impediments. Joe Dougherty, the original voice actor for Porky Pig had a real-life stutter. A quirk that they kept with the character despite the voice being recast by fluent speakers. I personally feel representation, but I can also see how they can come across as insulting. What are your thoughts?
