I like how you reflected on it, I agree that people aren't intending to be rude, they just aren't used to living in that discomfort. That's a discomfort that we know all too well, but I guess for those who don't stutter they don't experience it a whole lot. I've had nurses try to chime in with their "solutions" to stuttering, and I always remind them that this is my normal speaking pattern. I know they are trying to help, I let them know that I have all the help I need.
