I don't do the breathing consciously as a way to avoid stuttering. I just do it on the side (maybe 5-10 minutes a day) because it's healthier to breathe through the gut than the chest in my experience. When I achieve the fluency state, I'm more aware of how much compulsions are intrinsic to my stutter. Fighting them in any way seems like trying to struggle in quicksand.
