This is why it's so important that different therapy models exist. My journey has been the exact opposite. I've gone through numerous stuttering therapies throughout my life. While some of them helped temporarily (a couple weeks at most), it was never long term. After those failed therapies I also tried my very best to accept it for years and years. I do think that it is very difficult to accept your stutter if it's a severe case. I would have facial and full-body contortions and routintely get stuck with a lot of tension until my lungs ran out of air. Even though I was confident and unashamed about my stutter, what remained was that the actual behaviour of stuttering was very physically and mentally taxing for me. With my previous experiences with practices like meditation, visualisation or mind training, Lee's approach just really resonated with me. What also made it work for me is that the "speech tools" he describes didn't make my speech sound unnatural – that had also always been a big issue for me in past speech therapies. I'm very glad to have found Lee's book and program and definitely would recommend it to anyone who wants to do something about their stuttering.
