I think my son is developing a stammer. Help? My son 8 years old. I think he is starting to develop a stammer he will t t t t trip up on the start of words, just a few but enough for me to notice a fortnight ago to a good 1/3 of words this weekend. Iv not told him iv noticed. I have been watching him closely and it doesn't seem to be linked to and particular words or time of day or if he's tired or not. Or any particular activities. Does this sound like an impediment? Is this the start of a problem? What can I do to help him to either stop it from developing or help him manage it if it continues. I am worried about telling him as I have heard that it could make it worse. I'm sure he's noticed himself but he doesn't seem to be unhappy about it. hasn't said anything to me. We usually talk about everything easily. Update. Thank you all for the good advice. I have made an appointment with a local speech therapist just for me and them to discuss any further plans. Of course I would never barate or belittle him in any way and will try my best to help him through this in the most comfortable and hopefully happy way.
