Fantastic work OP. This community is amazing. No one understands what a stutter is like except those who have it. Having people finish your sentences for you, mock you, ask why”what was that?” or “what happened?” when they witness it for the first time, tell you to just relax and be less nervous, tell you to stop moving a certain way when you talk because they don’t understand trigger mechanisms and ticks… it’s so frustrating and humiliating. I love this community for that reason. I’ve never posted, but reading stuff like this reminds me that there are other people out there who experience it too, and we’re not alone. I’m in the military, and no one here understands it at all. I feel like it’s seen as a lack of discipline somehow by most people, and I can’t explain to them that there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop it or fix it - I just have to look stupid with my ticks and power through it to get my words out. Thank you for this post OP, another reminder that someone else has felt what I’ve been feeling for over 2 decades now.
