Do not avoid situations you would like to avoid, this will make things go from bad to worse. Finding a way to cope with the problem, and, more importantly, becoming a confident speaker, should be the goal. Making the people around you aware of your situation is a good idea, as long as you don't ask of them to/make sure they don't treat you differently from that point on.
