I'm sorry that happened to you. One thing my therapist said was to feel your feet on the floor and that communicated to your brain that you aren't running away. It honestly seems to help me. When I am about to have important conversations, I ensure I'm seated with my feet firmly on the floor or standing firmly. It's a little tip that helps. Doesn't work 100% of the time but seems to work most of the time for me. It sucks. Stuttering also made me feel like a loser and all the tips about confidence and talking slowly never worked. But frankly, I wish people told me earlier never to give a damn. It might seem like silly advice but not caring what people think will help. So you stutter? so what? You're not less than anyone else. You're as smart as everyone else so you will speak with your stutter and everyone must listen. I felt lots of shame and still do but I'm learning my stutter doesn't deter my intelligence or my wit. Stay strong. You've got this.
