I tried one of these years ago (I think it was back in 2009) and was disappointed to find that it wasn't a magic cure for me either. Granted, my speech issues weren't debilitating at the time, but still pretty disruptive in my life - bad enough that I was willing to pay for this if it was a legitimate solution... but it wasn't. I can see how it might help someone with a severe case, but with my brain wiring, it only served to jumble up my thoughts while making it hard to concentrate on what I was trying to say. The speaking aspect wasn't a problem, but organizing and constructing the sentences in my head became much more difficult with all the offsetting and distracting noise in my ear. Imagine if you were on an important phone call and someone was talking loudly into your other ear at the same time you were trying to speak... the noise might drown out the sound of your voice and help you to pay less attention to your own speech, but if some part of your brain NEEDS to hear yourself clearly in order to keep the words flowing (to know that you're being heard and the message is coming out), it could just as well get in your way too.
