I don’t completely agree with this. Stuttering is definitely neurological. And self acceptance and dealing with anxiety is 100% crucial. But I have found that a holistic therapy that targets the physical and psychological has helped me tremendously. Ie. - Learning diaphragmatic breathing - Toastmasters - actually do the speeches, don’t just attend - reading aloud everyday. - in my reading I break up multi-syllabic words like “miss-i-sip-i”. This is the better version of “talk slowly” that actually works and sets me up for that day. - DesensitizIng myself by going to loud places and forcing myself to speak to as many people as possible. - finally I had a tongue tie corrected through a frenectomy with a top doctor who specializes in speech. I’m not a doc so am not recommending this, but it’s worth seeing if there’s a physiological issue I think the self acceptance thing is great. But it’s like 101… get past that as quickly as possible and move onto the advanced stuff. There’s no cure, but the goal is to combine all the tactics to get a place where you can speak fluent enough to not feel like it’s holding you back from living a good life.
