Hi, Our son will be 4 soon, and we are currently doing the Palin PCI program, it's a program for children up to 7 years. We are very happy with the program, but it's a lot of work. Our son is stuttering a lot less now, but stuttering always fluctuates, so the progress isn't linear. We considered Lidcombe as well. Lidcombe is the program with the most research behind it, but a study found that the feedback you give the child, like "that was bumpy speech" etc has no or very little effect on the treatment, so that's not whats having an effect in the Lidcombe program. They talk about that study in this podcast: https://stuttertalk.com/what-exactly-is-working-in-preschool-stuttering-treatment-ep-701/ Then whats left of the Lidcombe program? The usual treatment stuff for children. One on one time each day, where the focus is creating an environment where he stutters as little as possible: - slow your own rate of speech, model a relaxed easy way of speaking - Take turns talking, show your son he doesn't need to rush - Take a small pause before responding, again to show him there is no rush. - talk openly about stuttering, get it out in the open, if Lidcombe is done correctly the comments you give on his speech is a way of talking about stuttering (fluent/bumpy speech). - there is more, it's somewhere in the Lidcombe manual.. Also voluntarily stuttering is a part of many programs, but not Lidcombe I believe. And then, the long term goal is for the parents to use these techniques outside of the daily one on one time, basically 24/7. The programs might look different, but in the end they are very similar. If my father knew this when i was 4-5 years old i would be very happy :) But there was no internet and only clueless SLP's. My parents did the best they could with the knowledge they had, but they were told not to make a big deal out of it, which ended up with us not talking about stuttering openly, and I felt I couldn't talk to anyone about the thing that bothered me the most.
