Like others I've definitely compensated by increasing commentary—usually sarcastically; I'm lucky to have friends who appreciate that kind of banter. Telling jokes or stories for me is very much like reading text out loud. I *can* do it, with practice and time, but most of the time, in everyday conversation, I compensate with non-block sounds. That doesn't always work with scripted stuff like jokes.
