How I got over my stutter This might be a slightly longer post, so please bear with me as I try to impart how I have progressed in the speech fluency aspect of my life. **TL;DR** My speech fluency even during public speaking has started becoming close to that of non-stutterers. The techniques I suggest and implement are a mixture of those suggested by therapists and meditation. **Background** Every adult male in my family till the including my father, cousin, uncles has non-fluency in their speech. As such as an adult when I realized of this issue, I figured out I will never be able to have the fluency of non-stutters. I am a 31 year old male. **Therapy** I persevered and have had sessions with 3 speech therapists from the ages of 22 till 26. The techniques suggested by each of them and the practice that I followed at home helped me and other than "umms" at a few bad sounds (k, m, g, n), my speech became fluent in everyday conversations. However, stressful situations such as public speaking resulted in much worse blockages, as you can imagine. **Mental game** I have been practicing mindful meditation (including yoga) for the past 2 years a few times a week with sessions ranging from 5 minutes till 45 minutes. For the past few weeks, I do it everyday just before I leave for work. I have realized a different level of peace in my everyday existence. This has drastically changed my speech pattern. There are no blockages even during public speaking which i wanted to test myself with and hence scheduled a presentation at my work. **Presentation outcome** My biggest takeaway during the actual performance has been the fact that staying in the moment aspect of mindfulness has helped me prolong the initial sound of the bad words resulting in only 1 repeated sound in a non-prepared presentation of 15 minutes. This has been the greatest achievement of my life. I will be happy to help any of my fellow stutters with any questions about my report and hope it helps you guys. Thank you. -N
