If it’s not impacting her ability to “make effective progress “ academically she will not qualify for an IEP. In order for the outside evaluation to have more weight than the School one, the person doing it has to have more experience and qualifications than the school SLP. In our case my son deteriorated from a fun loving, outgoing kid to a little ball on the couch who refused to go anywhere or do anything. He couldn’t say anything and it had a huge impact on every aspect of his life. Even like this, the school was not helpful and only offered the bare minimum. I had to lawyer up and fight tooth and nail. I still have to fight hard, which is expensive and time consuming. He’s been with a qualified therapist for a year and he is doing much better. He still stutters severely. The focus is on reducing tension and self acceptance so he can communicate effectively.
