This isn’t your fault my guy, it’s a challenge that every stutterer has to go through. Here’s some advice from a guy who had to answer calls for a congressional internship. I started every phone call by letting the person who called me know that I had a stutter. My copy and paste statement goes like this: “Hi my name is [first name] thank you for calling the congressional office of [congressperson]. I just want to let you know that I have a stutter, so if I do stutter while I’m speaking I ask that you please be patient with me” This completely eliminates the stranger’s expectation of fluency and more importantly makes it so you don’t have to pretend to be fluent. You’re a stutterer and that’s perfectly okay. You don’t need to pretend to be fluent when you can acknowledge your stutter and then try your best anyway. Every time I’m in a new situation I always start off my introduction by saying I have a stutter because it immediately takes the pressure off me. I recommend you say something like that whenever you meet someone new or take a call because it genuinely helped me a lot.
