I got beyond this by taking risks. Here's a story. My first year in college I commuted, so I didnt have too many friends (stuttering didn't help of course). After my first year I transferred schools. I had no orientation or anything, so I literally knew no one. The first few days i spent by myself..in the dorms...in the cafeteria. I realized i needed to make a move or I was going to be friendless. I was having breakfast and do the awkward "scanning the tables 5 times because I have no idea where to sit" I came across another guy sitting by himself. I sat down and introduced myself. We got along. It turned out he had more friends. He introduced me to them. We all became friends. The 3 years at that school were friend-filled and very enjoyable. To this day, I dont have the best social skills. I cant captivate a crowd with witty soliloquies. But that's ok. I have my moments; we all do. You can too. There are people out there ready to be your friend.
