This reply is for OP and to anyone thinking about drugs for speech. I hope it helps. I just realize how many stutterers experiment with drugs and it amazes me. I too have tried benzos, alcohol, weed, LSD and psilocybin and my recommendation would be stay clear of all drugs if possible but if you are a full grown adult and plan to do it still, I can’t stop you. I took all those drugs not for my speech but for severe depression and suicidal ideation (except the benzos was purely for speech). I’ll tell you my experience with each. -Benzos Is the one that helped the most speech wise but was the one that was harder to cut down after I became really dependent on it. I was eating them like tic tacs and I couldn’t have stopped without the help of my psychiatrist. If you plan on ever taking benzos make sure it’s supervised by your doctor to not get dependent on it. Withdrawal is the worst and my stuttering increases dramatically when withdrawing. -Alcohol The worst decision I have ever made. Never been a big drinker ever and when I was 26-27 decided to get a bit tipsy at a party and found out that my stuttering goes away and made me forget about my depression. From there my drinking increased day by day until I was admitted to the hospital with hepatitis. I have never touched alcohol since and will never do so again. -Weed I have a love/hate relationship with weed. I love that it makes me forget about my depression and my worries but on the other hand I hate that you could get dependent on it and go through withdrawals when one stops. Don’t care what anyone says about weed not being addictive, this is my first hand experience with it and I see a couple of friends also finding it hard to cut down from smoking every single day. Weed is a flip of a coin when it comes to speech. Sometimes it helps it and sometimes it makes it worse but in the ends, I had to stop and go through a grueling withdrawal (worse than benzos) because I was close to smoking every day. -LSD/Psilocybin My favorite. Nothing to do with speech but I find peace with LSD (I prefer it over shrooms) because it lets me see the big picture and reorganize myself and my thoughts. I credit it with helping cure my depression and my suicidal ideation. One powerful tool that should be used with respect and supervision. If you plan to go on this route, I only ask you to be safe (have a sitter or someone close you trust) but to comment on the question about stuttering, when I’m under the influence of psychedelics, my stuttering increases by a lot. Once I start to come down after the trip and my head is in a better place, my speech improves for a while. I credit it to how it changes my perspective of things and not the drug itself. But again, I’m not encouraging anyone to do any of the things I listed and always stay safe. I am only sharing my experience that I hope it helps anyone who is considering going down this road.
