I‘ve always gone by the nickname of my first name, like Bob for Robert. I sometimes have trouble getting it out, but if I introduce myself as my formal first name, I seldom have trouble. I think maybe I trick my brain that I’m talking about someone else or that I am someone else, like I’m acting. Is there an alternative name you can plausibly use for these sorts of occasions?
