Yes, you aren’t alone. I work security at a hospital and need to talk to people all the time. If someone isn’t looking at me what I tend to do to get their attention is make some sort of noise. Example: shuffle my feet, tap on a door, or some other form of non verbal audio cue to get them to turn to me and usually I’m okay with talking after that. It’s not something that goes away automatically unfortunately and it sounds cliche as all get out especially in the context of a stuttering subreddit, but just trying to talk to people and being level headed with them usually works out well. You’re always going to have people that judge or have a biased opinion on you right away because you stutter, but please realize this is not a problem with you, it’s them. And on top of that they’re probably not someone you want to talk to for an extended period of time anyway.
