I'm a little late to the thread but as a freshman this year I signed up for a public speaking class. We meet twice a week. The first time being in a 250 student lecture hall. The second time we meet in a classroom of 20-30 of us and thats where we do all of our presentations. I was terrified going in but I'm over halfway done with the semester and I am so much more comfortable with speaking in front of my class. It also helped that I told my instructor about my stutter because I was worried about her marking me down for it. She was very understanding and has worked with me to get through the course. In all of my classes so far we've had to do some form of speaking but no, they usually don't just go around and call on you randomly (at least from my limited experience). My advice would be to not worry too much about it. I guess for me, most people don't notice my stutter unless I'm extremely nervous and even then I say "umm" a lot to try to hide it. In my public speaking class they told us that almost everyone is nervous about speaking in front of groups, even those who don't have a stutter. Don't be afraid to talk to your professors about it because most if not of them will be extremely understanding. When I told my public speaking instructor she told me that she's had many students who have talked to her about their stuttering so you're not alone. If anything I feel like it helped her remember me and get to know me better (Which trust me, its something you want in college). I guess I've rambled for long enough, but to sum it up yes, there's quite a bit of speaking in college but its much different from high school in the form that everyone is much more mature. It's something that's just gonna be unavoidable but you'll want to get as much practice as you can and maybe you'll be able to be more comfortable eventually.
