Wouldn’t call myself an addict (not that I’m not, I just don’t call myself one) but alcohol and prescription opiates are always fantastic for giving me some distance from my stutter and letting me just live free of the anxiety and embarrassment it normally causes me. That being said it’s obviously a terrible solution. And I really only use opiates very occasionally. I’m just a pothead who likes to drink a lot. But a bad stutter day is always a reason to drink for me. Good luck staying sober. It sounds like you might not be ready to let go of those coping mechanisms yet, which I don’t blame you. Just be careful.
