thinking ahead.. I've noticed that thinking ahead about what I plan to say increases the chances that I will stutter, significantly. There's a local bagel store near my home. There's always a huge line and there's pressure to communicate your order quickly so the line keeps moving. Naturally, I don't eat bagels very often. If I go there, I stutter. So yesterday I decided to go. I had to wait about 7 minutes on line before it was my turn. Instinctively, I started preparing in my mind, thinking about how I would speak my order. I noticed myself thinking about which words to use. I decided to try something new. I told myself I could not prepare my order in my mind. I forced myself to think of something else when the urge to mentally prepare the order started bubbling up. To my surprise, when it was my time to order, fluency ! Anybody relate?
