Just how rare is stammering?

Just how rare is stammering? I've no idea of any official figures, but in my case it's extremely rare... I'm 59, been stammering all my life, during my time at schools, all the many many jobs I've had, friends, family etc I've never met anyone else who had a stutter.. it would of been nice to of met someone who understands what we go through
