First of all, I did hit the rock bottom. I am dad now and could not ask for basic stuff for my kid!! Someone told me about Lee's book and I checked it out. I went "all in" and decided this was my 24/7 project until I was finished. I read aloud for 1-4 hours daily, did the self affirmations and practiced the crutches. I don't know what helped the most, but in my case I believe it was reading aloud. Some of the crutches were crucial in the beginning since I sometimes had problem with words starting on certain letters. I think I just had to use my voice much more while not stuttering (I do not stutter when reading aloud because my mind is not focusing on any stutter-related issues). At the same time I made sure that I did not go into high pressure situations which would make me stutter. I did it in small steps and gradually increased my exposure to build fluency memories. The book is big and it's not that hard if you devote some months to do the ground work. But you really need to go all in. This will be your war with stuttering and that war goes on for 24/7 for a while. Many stutterers are very similar but they are also different so it may be different for you.
