I have a bachelors degree in communication sciences & disorders, and I also stutter. I can tell you that your tonsils play no part in stuttering. Stuttering isn't a result motor (muscle) issues or any physical obstructions, etc. Don't feel silly for asking, I understand where you're coming from-- when I was a kid I hoped I would stop stuttering when I got my braces to straighten my teeth! There is no proven cause of stuttering, but from my experience and research I believe it's usually related to a disconnect between white matter tracts between the language centers of the brain and oral-motor (muscles for speech) function.
