My stutter is fairly mild and usually only gets bad in stressful situations. Thinking back to middle school/high schooll, things like presentations, reading aloud… those sorts of things were awful. I would have rather done anything else on earth than have to do those things. Kids can be mean. Socially, I was fine. I was well liked, thankfully. I think the main thing that helped me make friends was I was in band. All of my friends were also in band, for the most part. Does your son have some sort of an outlet like that at school? If not, it may be helpful. Band gave me so much confidence as a kid. I was good at it, and it really brought me out of my shell. I highly encourage finding him an activity with a social aspect, if he doesn’t already have one. I still stuttered, sure. But nobody cared.
