Like you did in other situations, just got to find what approach works for you. I'm similar though. I believe it is partially due to frame control. One on one I can control the tempo of the conversation. In a group of fast-talking people, I have to pick my spots or try to keep up with them. That can throw you off your game. I talk a bit about frame and stuttering here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBG8CBjE7sY I think you absolutely could still make jokes and tell stories. Just need practice. Stuttering kind of moulded my sense of humour into a form that works with how I speak, to a degree. I've found my humour in social situations to be more about timing and pauses, kind of throwing a wrench into the conversation going on. But I don't much like those situations either, especially at a loud bar or something.
