Omg is this about my son?? I could’ve written this. My son had a very hard time transitioning in middle school. Finally in 7th he made some friends. My son has never had too many friends and I didn’t either honestly (I don’t stutter). I tell him that’s it’s perfectly fine to have quality friends even if it’s one over quantity. In 8th he stopped going to speech therapist too because he wanted no break in his school schedule to where he has to see his therapist. Now in high school the few friends my son had are gone too. But it doesn’t seem to bother him one bit. He is very much focused on his studies and it seems that he doing fine without having many friends. He is very close to his siblings and us (parents). I do ask him every now and then about friends situation and he doesn’t talk much about it and I leave it at that. I trust my son’s instincts that if someone or something is bothering him, he stays away from it. My son has no issues with stuttering or even in presentations. So I feel that whatever reason he has no friends (may or may not be due to his stuttering), it does not bother him. He’d rather not talk to them than being uncomfortable in their presence.
