Stutterers victim blame other stutterers, so how can a fluent person change their preconceived notion when our own side is like "no, its about how You deal with it, many stutterers are doing fine". Okay but im still being treated badly and if i even dare to mention my personal struggles i'll be hit with some hundreth variant of you can do better, or "i know someone". How does it affect my life if other stutterers are doing fine? Its not like most of those even speak of their stutter, they put their all into hiding it, its the reflex. Do you also tell people who have ADHD or apraxia of speech that they can't possibly complain about their issues because many people like them are doing fine? In all disorders the way you manage it is as important as the disorder itself for social survival but here most of it is put on the stutterer alone as a sort of moral failing or a lack of mental strength even if its not said directly, its always the feeling underneath it, rarely do we ever recognize the disorder part of it. Lets just continue gaslighting ourselves and each other as 60% of stutterers have "s" ideations, 30% attempt at least once and there's a clear correlation between lower quality of life and stuttering. And lets not forget that \*those studies dont even take into account people from underdeveloped nations where stuttering is even more of a stigma\*, which are the larger part of the world. Let's think about why studies on stuttering are so scarce while it affects so many people... People tell you to accept it but most of the things that are done (outside of speech therapy) serve to hide it, so common people remain uneducated, the pressure on stuttering people persist, and the social hardships continue.
