Hello shovelsocks, I’m employed, and majored in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Also, I’m a stutterer. I think we all feel like complete garbage from time to time. We aren’t. We are strong individuals, delt the hand, we were delt, as stutters. It would be most excellent if someone or something could lift us out of these almost guaranteed bouts of depression due to how the world treats us. 1) With all due respect, don’t give up. People in your age range feel unbelievably shitty for many reasons. Many people are in the exact position as you without a stutter. Yes having one makes you feel worse, that I know from experience. Consider, setting the bar just for you where things need to be to make friends. Instead of friends, consider acquaintances. Just say a few things to people during school and consider that a success. It is a success by the way. For example, you could just say “hello” to one person a day, or talk to one person a day about the school work. Engineering students love to rant about how tough things are, and being a part of the conversation, if only to listen to someone else, can give you an opportunity to say a few things. Since people view our stutters as simply a nervous/frustration/anger thing, it will allow you an easy in to speak more. 2) I’m six foot two inches, fit and feel like garbage from time to time when I open my mouth. I know the conversations you’re talking about. They feel like thirty minutes yet last a minute or two max. 3) Job interview rejection is universal, and while it can feel like they are rejecting you unfairly, employers often are very fickle and may have a huge stack of applicants to go through, with the final standard from which they pick someone completely arbitrary, at least from the job applicant’s perspective. You may not have what they are looking for, do the best you can, and then try another place.
