So if it's the first day for the others too, chances are people won't know each other. So I'd suggest to follow whatever the others are doing. In my case, our group was just waiting in the hallway, waiting for the first class to start, and nobody really talked much. It was usually small talk on the first day, and nobody really bonded, so don't be disappointed if you don't find a friend right away.
