Recently developed/acquired stutter Like the title says I recently developed or acquired a pronounced stutter. Over the past 10-12 years I have had a problem finding words, I’d fumble, pause, no sound would come out, speech would get choppy. I never thought of it as a stutter or anything other than, as I’d say “I write better than I speak, I don’t verbally express myself well”. In the past two weeks however, it’s gone completely off the rails. There are only a couple of situations where it’s either greatly reduced or absent... 1. Mostly absent talking to myself or my dogs, though it does happen; I don’t think with a stutter, but when writing I do fumble for a word, and just can’t think of the word I want. 2. Singing, completely absent. I picked up my guitar again after a few years and can sing while playing, and with other songs. 3. Chanting, completely absent. Vedic chants, chanted prayers and hymns in Sanskrit (Hinduism). I guess maybe I can chant English in Vedic meter from now on? Lol I should add I’m 63, recently lost my job due to COVID. Job of 23 years eliminated. I have no health coverage anymore and have a couple of doctors and meds I need, but can’t afford now. So needless to say, I’m pretty stressed. I didn’t think this could happen though. Btw, there are times I think I can or should speak without stuttering but can’t. I’m asking myself if there’s any reason I’m doing this deliberately or if it’s even possible. I mean, I just get stuck on a sound, syllable or word, or sometimes freeze. My spouse asked in a serious way if I thought I had a stroke. I said I don’t think so, I don’t have the common signs of a stroke, but that doesn’t mean anything. But I think it might have been a seizure. I was in the recliner one night, admittedly falling asleep, but it wasn’t a hypnic jerk. My arm, specifically left arm tensed up and relaxed several times, along with my whole body. It was like different muscles firing at different times. Weird, I know. I have experienced this before. So, I don’t know what to make of this. Like I said, I can’t go to any doctors or specialists, so if I have to live with it, I guess so be it. Ideas? Experiences? Insight?
