Anticipatory struggle is a bitch. Worrying about stuttering will only make it worse. I've been teaching myself over time to, as soon as I reach a block or stutter, immediately stop thinking about that phoneme (speech sound) and concentrate mentally on the next one. It's actually helped a lot, or at least feels like it helps. If you focus on the stutter, it seems it only makes it worse. Focus on the fluid phonemes you can produce instead. Also, something I've realized and implemented into my life is that if there's something you're afraid to do because you stutter (whether it's ordering at a restaurant, giving a speech/lecture, talking on the phone), start doing that thing every opportunity you get. You can't let yourself use escape techniques to get out of stuttering situations. It may get you out of the stutter in the short term, but doesn't help at all with the long term issue (though I don't consider my stuttering a crutch/disability anymore, I stopped that kind of thinking and suggest you do too if you feel that way) of stuttering. I used to be terrified to answer the phone, now I work at a technology help desk answering phones all the time and stuttering and being ok with it. I no longer fear a ringing phone.
