I usually stand up and try not be around other people. I may go into another bedroom or outside. Getting it over with as you say is a good idea. Before making a call to someone who I don't know (or don't talk to often) I usually take a deep breath and try to figure out the first few sentences of what I want to say. I find if I don't do this I bumble around and then stutter even more. I never wave my arms around when I talk to people in person, but if I'm in my office (with the door closed, of course) I find myself moving around more, leaning back, waving an arm, leaning to one side or another. I guess it makes me feel better and probably helps only like, 10%. But hey, it's a win. http://helloistutter.com/tag/phone/
