3 techniques that actually helped my child's stutter — sharing in case it helps others Hey everyone. My kid struggled with stuttering for years and I went deep into researching what actually works at home between therapy sessions. Here are the 3 things that made the biggest difference: 1. Diaphragmatic breathing before speaking Place one hand on the belly. Breathe in for 4 counts, hold 2, out for 6. Do this every morning. It physically relaxes the larynx before the child even opens their mouth. 2. Easy onset on vowels Start every sentence from a vowel sound and stretch it slightly. Instead of forcing "ball" — try "aaaa-ball." The vowel opens the airway and eliminates the block before it starts. 3. Pause and Pull-Out When a block happens — stop completely. Take one gentle breath. Then stretch the stuck sound forward slowly. "b-b-b-ball" becomes "pause... baaall." With practice this becomes automatic. We practiced these for 8 minutes every morning for 30 days and the change was remarkable. Happy to answer any questions. I also put all of this into a structured 30-day audio program if anyone wants something more guided — just drop a comment and I'll share the link.
