When I'm supposed to speak in public, my primary thought is "oh no I'm going to stutter", which is exactly why I do stutter. When I'm with someone I'm comfortable with, I know I'm not going to stutter....and, hence, I don't. Seems to me if only I could convince myself that this stutter isn't organic, hence isn't really real, I could escape it entirely.
