Advice I received as a kid When I was a kid, a great aunt pulled me aside and told me the best advice I've ever received. She said: *I have a stutter, too. Sometimes I try to speak but the words don't come out right and I get frustrated. I take a deep breath, clear my mind, and start over, taking my time to find the words. And if I feel like I'm about to start stuttering, I just pause and take a breath, then start speaking again. I take as long as I need because you and me, we're listeners. People know that when we speak, we have something important to say, and they'll be patient if we need to take our time.* Before that moment, I didn't even know I had a stutter. I thought I was just a quiet person.
