Looking for advice Hi there, My son who was born in 2020 (4) developed a stutter at age 3. He was a late talker and was mostly non verbal until he was 2. Obviously covid (masks etc.) contributed to this. No one on my or my wife’s side had a stutter. When he stutters, it’s whole words. For example, he’ll be explaining something and say “like, like, like….”. It’s almost like he’s stalling as he forms the next words in the sentence. We have had him in the Lidcombe program for 10 weeks or so. The SLP comes to our house once per week and my wife works with her and our son both during the sessions, and throughout the week. While we’ve seen some improvement to his stutter in this time, we are feeling like he’s plateaued and is not making further progress. My wife is feeling stressed because she is the primary person providing the therapy throughout the week but she’s not sure what to do in terms of continuing or not. He starts JK in September and in order to continue with the therapist once weekly, we’d have to pull him out of school as she doesn’t have any after school spots available. My wife also doesn’t love the component of “correcting” the stutter when it happens. For additional context, he has 2 older brothers (8 and 10) who do not have any speech issues. So, continue with Lidcombe despite the challenges especially when school starts? Stop? Another program or therapy? We want to continue to help him of course but are feeling like the progress has stalled and are struggling to determine what to do or not do. Any advice or experience would be much appreciated. Thanks!
