Change can take a long time. like an oil tanker making a huge turn. I would set small achievable goals, like one phone call a day, even if just to a parent. one thing I hated was saying my name because obviously I couldn't change it. so starting the call with your name can help. say something like, Bill here, how are you? If they think it's weird you tell them your practicing your speech. If you happen to have two phones or live with someone with another phone, turn off the 2md phone amd leave a voicemail. Say your name. Over time your perception of yourself will change as you practice more difficult words or situations. you made a great start in identifying you need to change. take one step at a time, but do something daily that makes you feel uncomfortable. see speaking as a sport that you need to improve upon. saying your name into a voicemail is a win! asking a stranger for directions to the bank is a win!
