I went through crap therapy before receiving proper therapy. Public school therapy... Crap. Crap. And more Crap. Years of crap. Psychologist trying their hand at speech therapy... crap. It wasn't until I received therapy from a SLP who specialized in stuttering that I was able to achieve fluency. And that actually took two attempts. First time was my teens, and I didn't put in the work like I should have. But you get to a point where you believe that therapy doesn't work... After so much crap, why would you think anything else? I went back to the same doctor in my 20's. The only difference between my teens and 20's was *ME.* I went there of my own choosing. I was intent on getting fluent. I did the heavy lifting.
