Putting myself in the right frame of mind usually helps me. Im sure youre like many others, counting down the students to see which paragraph you'll be reading and scanning through it for words you may block on. DONT DO IT! Follow along with the story, be interested in it. The more involved you are, the less energy you have to put towards the anxiety that gets your heart racing. Remember that after your 30 seconds of reading, itll be done, and youll move on with your life. You may stutter, but so what? Life goes on... Life will always go on. The only person that gives significance to the stuttering is you, so youre really in control! If you are comfortable with it, maybe self disclose to the class that you stutter, it always helps me to be relaxed since they know it may very well happen. Explain its nothing you can control and what stuttering is. EDIT: I know its really stressful, and I assume youre in high school. I give you this advice because of the amount of anxiety stuttering gave me in high school in the exact same situation. I wish I was able to change my perception sooner in life. Its really hard, and Im not trying to ignore the anxiousness you have and pretend that its suppose to be so easy for you to get rid of it. But I never thought, in high school, that stuttering would ever be ok. I thought some day I would have to get rid of it in order to live a fulfilling life. That mindset is wrong, and it was poison for me. The sooner you can accept, the easier it become and the less shits you give about the stuttering and what others think of it.
