This is difficult phase. When I joined my university I found it punishing to meet people while avoiding my stammer. In the end, I've got only 2 friends who were my roommates and know me for more than my stammer. While everyone else at the university avoids me or my stammer entirely. So, in the end it all comes down to who perceives you for your nature, personality, and such qualities, not one speaks or appears infront of others. All I can say is that if you can see such qualities in someone then try to approach them and see how it goes Good luck
