Something similar happened to me. Class 5 , Story telling competition. Despite having stammering , I was bubbly and lively enough to participate in a story telling competition, never having done it before. During practice sessions I never got a chance because by the time my turn came , the bell rang. The teacher didn't mind coz I was the star kid who's good at everything , just has a very little stutter. On stage , I started the story. After doing the first 20% of the story , I had to say apple , and I got stuck at A. Could say ahead of Aa. Took two three seconds and then changed the word to Apricot. That came out smoothly. By the time I reached the middle portion of the story , I had to say Orange. And I got stuck , on stage , 250 kids watching. I tried to say the word , a couple of times , but couldn't. Couldnt think of any other word that starts with O at that moment. Kept on trying the word , kept on getting stuck. Tried for 5 minutes. The audience was pin drop silent. My own attempt echoing on the mike. Then got down. Knew it was a bad day. Mom got a call , from my teacher. The school was taking one participant in the inter school competition of story telling , and I was in the quorum , since I was a participant in the intra school. My mom thought I was the one who the school was taking for storytelling. I returned home , and she asked "How was it?" And I said "Good" . She pressed further , asked about the experience, what story did I tell , etc. Made some very convincing shit up. Story teller after all.
